Rainforest Alliance Geographic Scope: International Sectors Covered: Tour Operators, Lodging Description: Toolkit for small and medium enterprises. Best management practices include a series of sustainability principles and concrete recommendations that can be implemented by anyone whose livelihood depends on the land. The Guide for Sustainable Tourism Best Practices is a tool to help community-based organizations and small and medium sized tourism businesses take specific actions to operate more sustainably. The guide was developed with input from a wide range of stakeholders and can be used to develop internal policies and codes of conduct, to meet certification requirements, or to educate clients.
Regional examples of Rainforest Alliance's work are provided below. Rainforest Alliance is working with:
1. Business owners in Costa Rica's Talamanca region, on the Caribbean coast, to "help them reduce their environmental impact, and ensure that tourism benefits all the region's communities and cultures".
2. Ecuadorian Pacific Coast Lodges, Alandaluz Ecolodge and Rio Muchacho Organic Farm. Both destinations have made a commitment to protect the natural and culutral riches of this region of Ecuador.
3. Ecuador's Cotopaxi hacienda-turned-hotel Tierra del Volcan, where lodge owners honor a commitment to conserve the environment. |
